I'm not a huge knife guy, but after watching this video I have been wanting a fixed blade. Anybody local make knives like this?

I've watched each of his videos three times now. Pretty cool stuff, I love seeing all the work that goes into his tools and his workshop / workshops have a great "vibe." Gotta ask though, what is that dust/powder he's sprinkling on the steel? I'm extremely ignorant when it comes to this stuff.

I also was wonder what he was putting on there. I assume it is something to help the combining of the metals but was curious as to what it is.
