I found this while looking to make a knife scribe, they are pretty expensive on certain knife making websites. I am going to order this and try it, I can always modify the pin if it does not work well the way it is. If someone has a good idea for a cheaper knife scribe I am all ears.

Cubby or Capt. Jeff could probably help you better than I, they make more knives than I do. As long as you paint/dye the surface first that one would probably work well. I have to tell you though, I've never used one I've always went from look and feel. My blades are not perfect, but I think their purty!:D

to scribe the profile or the cutting edge of the knife?

for the profile, just grab up a $2.99 carbide scribe. for the edge, just use a bit half the thickness of your stock. done.
