hi everyone. Does anyone know of any reasonable
not cheap diamond honed knife sharpened that will
put a razors edge on the pocket knives in my
collection. A lot of the blades have very hard steel
like s30v which are very hard to sharpen but I have
ones with a lot softer steel too so I need
something that will work on both. I've heard
good things about the ken onion work
sharp and the manual one spider I makes.
The guy at bass pro and cabelas both said
if you are looking for a more affordable option
the chefs choice pronto manual diamond
honed 464 two stage pull thru works good. If I
could hold my knives at the right angle i
would definitely go with some of the better
diamond stone kits but I can't hold a knife
at the right angle for the life of me, so does
anyone have any ideas what would be my
best option. Thanks for the help.

I use a DMT sharpening system. Works very well and is more affordable than most that are out there. You just have to hold at the correct angle. Look for the shadow at blades edge. Check the YouTube video.

S30v is easy to sharpen only running 59-60 on the Rockwell scale. I recommend as always the wicked edge system. The base model is $300 and includes stones all the way up to 600 grit (which will put a very nice toothy edge on the knife) you will never need another system again and you will get consistent and perfect bevels on your knives very easily and efficiently.

Easy relative to . . .? Oh, I know! All of the other steels that you will allow your fingers to touch. Heh.

Properly heat treated CPM S30V does take a really nice edge and is not tremendously difficult with the proper abrasive media. Diamonds will work very well for all stages of the sharpening, as will some of the synthetics. If you choose to use natural Arkansas stones . . . pack a lunch because you'll be at it a while!
