I know this is a INDIANA gun forum, but I am a employee for the Commonwealth of Kentucky so upon hearing about proposed legislation restricting the carrying of firearms in the capitol building, I sent to following letter to the legislator who is proposing said legislation, please let me know how it sounds.

I am writing you to express my opposition to any legislation banning
firearms in the capitol building in Frankfort. Why would there be any
    legislation enacted?

If a lunatic wants to bring a gun into the capitol and start firing, do
you really think that person would care anything at all about any law
banning firearms in the capitol? Their intentions are to shoot someone,
so why would they care about the legality of carrying?

The ONLY thing that this type of legislation accomplishes is to
criminalize a CONSTITUTIONALLY protected RIGHT to keep and bear arms.
Statistically, the legal gun owner is NOT going to come into the capitol
building and do any harm at all. Why should I, as a legal gun owner,
not be allowed to protect myself or my family from harm because I am in
the capitol? I know there will be allowances for LEO, judges, etc., to
allow for them to carry, why should they be able to protect themselves
and their families, but I can't? This kind of proposed legislation is
nothing more than a knee-jerk reaction to the tragedy in Tucson. Even
if Arizona had unconstitutional gun laws, do you think the madman that
started shooting would have followed the law? Of course not, he would
have brought the gun and killed anyway, not carrying one bit about ANY
laws. The problem is NOT with legal gun owners, or guns, the problem is
    with insane people.

Remember, to live in a free society is inherently dangerous.

You can NOT legislate security. Just remember the famous words of
Benjamin Franklin, "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a
little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

I would love to discuss this in more detail with you if you would like.
I can be contacted at my cell number anytime.

    Thank you for your time,

Minor typo? Should that be caring?
