meh, probably not going to be worth the cost... they talk about how it will help our warfighters in iraq and afganastan, yet its not technologically advanced enough for to be rifle cartridge rated, so its a moot point.

either call it what it is, or keep trying. Just because its had marginally better success (when compared to plain kevlar) w/ 9mm rounds, does not really mean much in the end game.

Non-newtonian fluids are a pretty crazy sector of science, and things like this are something I have been waiting on for years.

Gotta admit, I too have been anticipating someone figuring out that the properties of non-newtonian fluids are perefct for application in body armor. Science fiction authors have been using them for years now.

Awesome! I have heard that this stuff was being designed. I hope it hits the market in the near future. It will be pricey!

Must be like those high dollar coffee force-fields I've seen, folks around Clay Terrace walk right out in front of cars carrying that stuff, never looking anywhere but straight ahead.

It's funny you say that, because my mom made some with my younger siblings as a science project. She handed me a cup of it and said "push on it slowly with your finger" and my finger pushed it down no problems. She said "now poke it quickly" and my finger barely dented it.

My first thought was "I wonder what it would do if you shot it".

while at this point, its not too effective, however i think this could be the start to something really cool down the road. immagine not having to hide behind sandbags, just those plastic road blocks filled with liquid, anywhere you can take a tanker truck, youve got cover.

The Mythbusters did a bit on non-Newtonian fluids a few years ago. Filled a big tub with cornstarch and H2O and ran across it. I'm sure you can find it online if you want to see it.

Yes ^^^ I was just going to mention this, very interesting show. My sons science teacher did this in a pan at school and told us about it. I thought it was impossible so we tried it at home, to my amazement it worked.

This is very interesting, I would be curious to see though how it holds up to 7.62x39, 7.62x51/54, and 5.56x45. If it does well then I will get excited. As for now, I will stick to my ESAPI plates!

Does it also stop rifle rounds or would u still have to wear a plate. Would imagine the guys over in Afganistan would really like it if they could get rid of some of their weight.
