My girlfriends dad and I are toying with mining up the dirt pile at the backyard range for lead. We shoot a lot of FMJ in 9mm and .45, what would be the best way to seperate the jacket from the lead for recovery?

I'm sure that someone has a better idea, but I general just put the whole bullet in the pot and when the lead melts, take some pliers and remove the jacket. As always, make sure said bullets are COMPLETELY dry before dropping them in the pot.

    That's what we always did.
Or just skim the copper off with the dross.
