ok so seeing as I am clueless other than some dead ends on the old interwebs i figure why not try my luck here. As the title states this is a question regarding my Remington model 1917 30-06. It has been sporterized slightly. I dont have an account with a third party site for pictures just yet. I will post pictures later but I dont think picture is necessary for my question. Ok here it goes. Would it be worth my time to have the rifle gone through to find out what all is not remington on this rifle? I have noticed a few parts that are not marked with R. Both the reciever and barrel seem to be matching as far as I can tell. I was also thinking about having the stock cleaned up on it a bit and maybe refinished. With that being said how much would a service like this run? Are there particular gunsmiths that only work on old WWI rifles that would be better to send to if I decided to go this route? Any tips or suggestions on this would be much appreciated. Thanks :ingo: I am enjoying the site so far.

I am going to say no from the $$ value aspect.

They made over 2 million of them. A lot were sporterized after their use in war was over. If the rifle means something to you ,and or you are looking to do a fun project then I'd say go for it. But no matter what you do that rifle will never be original again. I'd shoot it and enjoy it in it's second life!

JMHO others will most likely think other wise.
