I've seen some guys in training classes/videos with a molle looking belt. It looks pretty wide and appears to be something to just wrap around the waist.

Looks like a good idea for a SHTF type belt that I could leave a holster, mag pouches, med kit, light and so forth on.

    Anyone have one or recommendations?

    Called a 'war belt'.

And, as usual, shooter521 probably has some solid recommendations.

Cwood and VUPDblue also have war belt setups, that I know of. MTC has one that he put together himself very economically.

I use and recommend the ATS MOLLE War Belt with the inner/rigger's belt of your choice (mine happens to also be ATS). The War Belt is a sleeve that is open at the bottom, which allows gear such as holsters, subloads and other non-MOLLE gear to be attached to the inner belt.

Here's a pic of mine from awhile back:

Since then, the holster has been painted OD, and the short carbine mag pouch has been changed from a DBT to an HSGI "Taco".

And a pic of the belt with my Eagle plate carrier setup:
