I have an idea I wanna run by you Mosin guys and see if it sounds workable .

    A .308 is 7.62 X 51 right ?

The Mosin family shoots 7.62 X 54 right ? We're talking a difference between the two of 3 millimeters right ?

Is the 3 mm difference in the diameter or the length of the bullets ?

Would the Mosin bullets (the X 54) work in a 20 rnd .308 PMAG ?

I know that there are some Mosin mags that have been modified to accept 20 rnds but IMO , they look like CRAP .

So going a different direction , has anyone tried to modify a Mosin to accept an "off the shelf" magazine such as a .308 PMAG ?

    .308 is 7.72x54R

    Correct.

    I think a picture is worth a thousand words.top is .308, bottom is 7.62x54.

I dont think what you want to do will work but I could be wrong.

I don't have the Mosin / rnds or a .308 PMAG so I can't try it out but I was wondering if it would work the same way like with AR's .

    I think you can fit 13 rnds of .458 socom in a 20 rnd 5.56 mag .

I'm thinking that the .458 has a larger case then the 5.56 and it still works so I was thinking that it may work with the 7.62 bullets .

Looks like I'm gonna have to get some things together and try to make this happen .

The X51 and the X54 refer to the length of the case. Not the overall length of the cartridge and certainly does not have anything to do with the diameter of the bullet. That is the 7.62 part.

Yes, but 7.62 doesn't mean 7.62. I am pretty sure that the 7.62 x 54r happens to be a slight larger diameter 7.62 than the 7.62x51

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. The .308 is 7.62x51, hence it is smaller then the Russian 7.62x54.

the russian case is bigger than the .308. Plus the russian has that huge ass rim on the end of it, which will give the op problems with what he is trying to do.

    What kind of problems ?

Also , if the .308 isn't an ideal "match" to the X 54r , what round is a closer match and do they make mags for it ?
