mossberg 835 troubles

my dads 835 misfired on 2 turkeys this year, so i told him to let me have it to fix it. so i have ordered a firing pin spring and a firing pin(prob didnt need to) because it sounded like a weak spring because the pin dimpled the primers but didnt go off. also my dad tore it down to clean it and now after you fire it you have to press the slide button to jack another shell in as opposed to just jacking the next one in without pressing the button. also i have a suspicion that the bolt block is not going all the way closed. does anyone have anyh tips or experience with this. will appreciate all opinions, thanks

May sound like a stupid question but is the ammo good? I'll ask a guy at work tomorrow he has a couple of them.
