I am buying a bike and am wanting some advice on insurance companies that are motorcycle friendly. I am 30 and the bike is a 96 honda magna. what are some good companies to go with?
I am using Progressive. I am over 50 and ride a late model ZG1000 Kawasaki. Full coverage is $305 per year. I totalled a bike in 2004, but no problems since then.
Geico has pretty good rates also. There is a problem, they have a coverage clause when riding in organized groups. Some Partiot Guard riders had a problem when I lived in Texas. Since I ride some Funeral escorts, I shy away from them.
Ride safe, the cell phone texting knuckle heads really ARE out to get you.
Good Luck
Go with whatever company you use for your car and homeowner's insurance. I have never paid more than $150 a year for my bikes and that's with full coverage. My last company was State Farm and they charged $125 a year.
I use Progressive for my bike. Its a 2003 sv1000 and I just renewed for another year and it cost me $181. I've never had to put in a claim so I cant comment on that but when I talk to them on the phone they are helpful. I would try to go through the same people who insure your home and car if you can so you can get a multiple vehicle discount. I have USAA for my other insurance and they don't offer motorcyle coverage but they suggested Progressive and its worked out good so far.
I have used progressive for all of my bikes. I wouldn't "lump" with other coverages such as home and auto. If something happens all of them can go up. Go to progressive online. They are cheap.
I have Progressive for my auto insurance, so I went with them for my motorcycle insurance too. Costs me $196 per year for full coverage on my 1987 Goldwing.
ETA - That $196 wasn't just for basic full coverage either. I get $300k/$150k, $50k medical, roadside assistance, and $3k insurance on all aftermarket accessories. Go with Progressive online, and you can choose what limits/coverages you want. Could be as cheap as $100/year.
You should also check into the uninsured/underinsured coverage. Medical costs you may need to cover due to someone else injuring you could be very high.
There is no company that offers the best deal for every person. You have to get quotes from different companies online and see which companies can provide you with the best price: www.quotes-center.com/average-motorcycle-insurance-rates
I shopped them all in 2002 when I bought my Kawasaki ZRX 1200R. Problem number 1 came up because of the Z. Most of them wanted to make it a ZX which is a Ninja and quadruple the cost. No amount of talking and telling them to run it as a ZRX would work.
Progressive and Geico both ran it as the ZRX and Progressive was lowest. Still carry full coverage with uninsured/underinsured and a $5000 aftermarket rider and its now $90 a year full coverage.
Helps that I've had a motorcycle endorsement for almost 28 years now, no accidents, and no tickets
