    What markings would distinguish this to tell if it is a Navy 1911?? I assume that it would say US Navy on the slide but its almost to obvious

    I'm sorry, I was thinking of the so called Marine pistols, not the Navy's.

    The U.S. Navy designation was stamped on the slides of the Navy M1911s through March 1915, with a total of 15,037 with this mark.

    :): If that were my pistol I would do the following.

    1. Strip the nickel off!!
    2. Install a colt g.i. thumb safety.
    3. Strip off those god-awfull grips (stocks).
    4. Install a nice set of walnut double diamond grips.
    5. Blue or parkerize the entire pistol.
    6. You should be good to go and have fun shooting a nice piece of history!!
