I have a flat top that I just got and I don't know which I would rather do. Should I just put a quick release mount with a scope on it of some sort. like a 3x9. Or should I do a red dot with a magnifier? What is really the biggest difference. I am not looking to spend a fortune on this, I would like to put a limit of about $200 on the whole setup. Any suggestions would be great.

For 200 I would go with a primary arms red dot and a QD mount and call it good.

As always it depends on what you want to do with it, and how far away you want to shoot. :)

What he said .I just ordered a Vortex red dot strikefire from primary arms .Great turn around time . Red dot seems ok for the price dot 's a lil fuzzy ,but it's $149 not $549

On my AR I have a burris fullfield 2-7x with ballistic plex. Well under your budjet and it makes shooting out to 500 yards a breeze.

simmons 6x21x44ao with side focus plus a model 1 one piece scope mount works well on my ar. take the scope off for in safe storage, replace when needed. remains very, very close to zero. great set up for around 200 bucks.
