Just picked up an 870 last night. I went with the 12ga, syn stock and 26" barrel. It is the first gun I've owned and am looking forward to it. Cleaned it last night and hope to get out this weekend and use it.

If you have never shot a 12 before and if it is a smooth bore get some cheap target shells and shoot them for a while... a lot easier on your shoulder.

I got it from BPS for 309. I bought the winchester low noise, low recoil, target shells. I have shot a 12ga before but need more practice. Plus I thought those shells would be better for the wife to shoot.

Congrats on a fine weapon. The Remington 870 is an American Icon among shotguns. Very versitile and there are tons of upgradeable parts for it .
You cant go wrong with an 870

i love the 870's myself, never have to clean them, although if you have a slug barrel it wouldnt hurt to run a 12g bore snake through to clear out the fouling

I'm really looking forward to owning it. I've spent a couple of months on this forum reading reviews and your all's comments. Some good advice on here.
