    We actually did an experiment similar to this back when I was in high school. We had 2 reel-to-reel tape recorders next to each other, with one reel on each. One would record, and then the tape went to the second one which would be set on play. This resulted in about 1/2 to 1 second delay so that the person speaking would hear what they just said played back to them with that slight delay.

    It was funny because people would keep talking faster, trying to "outrun" the playback. I could see how that would be pretty disruptive!
