Can someones parent buy a NFA item as a gift (silencer, factory SBR, etc.)? I will not be doing this since I am about to turn 21.:rockwoot: and I can buy these items on my own but I was just wondering out of curiosity.. Is it like a handgun? Or a big no no.

No, unfortunately, an NFA item can only be owned and possessed by the person it's registered to.

Someone COULD set up a trust and put the recipient down as a trustee, who would then have full use of the item.

Likewise, they could set up a corporation and the recipient could be a member of the corporation and have access to the item.

    Can you buy it? Yes.
Is it like a handgun purchase? No.
What is the difference? Paperwork, fingerprints, $200 donation to ATF, and 2-4 months waiting.

I knew it was not just like a handgun purchase I meant the gifting part of it.

you only have to be 21 to buy it from a dealer. so you could do a form 1 to build it your self or a form 4 from another person in your state that is selling one. You can also set up a trust with you and lets say your father on it and your father would be able to fill out all the paper work and then if the trust was set up right you would be able to use the item as well.
