I wonder if the early congressmen/founders carried weapons into chambers or if they had to send out for a brace of pistols when they decided to duel.

As for the overarching point, I think it's one of the best refrains to the politicians surrounded by guards saying the peasants shouldn't be able to defend themselves. Immediately puts the lie to their nonsense.

If a politician want 'no guns', then he should be banned from getting a gun, or having security.
