While i was making some .45acp from some brass i just bought i came across a piece of brass that would not take a primer. The brass says 45 AUTO FC 98. So what is it? Is it a crimped primer pocket or what? Its the only one i've come across in the 300 i've loaded so far.

If it is new brass then it wouldn't be crimped. Hard to tell what is wrong with it. Run a reamer in it or toss it.

No not new brass, suppose to be once fired.

after more searching FC is for federal cartridge. I'm not sure why it wont accept a primer.

I have seen Federal (and Speer) in both large primer and small primer versions. Can you measure the primer pocket with your Dial calipers? Most will go down that small. The ammo manufacturers are making it just that much more complicated. On the other side, I have someone who has bought 2000 of the small primer.45 brass from me. He loads 9mm, .40 and .45. He buys his primers 5000 at a time to save money, and that way he only has to stock one size.

Sounds like the primer has sepperated, the sides are still in the case. I've hads some do that. You can try to pick it out ...I'd just pitch it

45ACP with that headstamp is military Federal Cartridge 1998 ammo. It IS mil-crimped, and will not take a primer without being swaged (like mil 5.56mm brass)

If you don't have a swager, just pitch it.
