I do not recommend the near east or west side.

I really like the SW side of town. North and Northeast are traffic headaches. Greenwood sucks with traffic as well IMO

There are some nice home and apartments in the Camby area. Camby, Mooresville are close to Indy, with decent schools and lower crime. Try looking for something in the "Heartland Crossing" area.
