Reading latest issue of IAA Journal and in it is a detailed report on the small arms ammunition found in the Syrian Civil War.

I noted the wide variety of methods of priming in the ammunition from across the world (Romania, China, Ukraine, even Sudan!).

Given the different methodologies of priming (three point staking, stab, etc.), why would a manufacturer pick one over another? Cost? Ease of manufacturing?

What are the pros and cons of each priming method?

I think you'll find that the biggest factor is just inertia, whatever people started with or what type of machinery was purchased back in the beginning.
