OK, my buddy got an over and under birdgun as a gift.

He says that it is chambered for 12 gauge 3" shells.

Can you shoot 2 3/4" shells from a break action bird gun chambered for 3" shells?

I know that you can shoot shorter shells in a pump gun and it seems like you should be able to do the same with a break action, but figured you guys would sort me out.

    So, INGO, what's the answer?

From what I have been told, it is not a problem shooting the shorter shells in any shotgun. I don't remember where, but I read an article about using 2 3/4 shells in a 3 inch chamber actually makes for a better pattern as it allows the shell to open more evenly.

I never shoot 3" out of my 3" chamber. always 2 3/4". those are just what i prefer to shoot trap with. Remington game loads cause theyre cheap in bulk. 3" isn't necessary for trap so i only shoot 2 3/4", always have. your gun will be fine. the only reason thats marked is because thats the maximum length that will fit in the chamber.

Yep, I don't think I've ever put 3" through my Stoeger O/U, even though I could. Break actions should even be able to take those really short shells that pumps and autos can't.
