    Hello All,

New to the area...and am curious where the locals go. Where are the preferred shops and closest ranges and clubs?

Everything that I found seems to be a little further away. Like the Sand Burr Ranch.

    Thanks:ar15:

:) As far as shops, I don't really buy local because I can usually get a much better price online. I do my FFL transfers at South County Guns in Cedar Lake. They charge $30 when most in the area charge $50.

For indoor shooting, there are two ranges about equidistant from Crown Point-- Deb's in Hammond and Blythe's in Valparaiso. I have never been to Deb's, but I have heard that they are pricier on range time than Blythe's and that the atmosphere is not as... controlled? as far as people following safe range practices.

For outdoor shooting, most of us go to Winamac DNR. There is also a range at Willow Slough in Newton(?) County... not familiar with that one. I'm from Crown Point, but I haven't been shooting as long as a lot of the other NW IN people, so hopefully they will chime in also.

Thanks Snapdragon! I will look into South County is it an FFL that runs his business out of their home? Most of my previous purchasing was done online as well.

South County Gun Co. 12937 Wicker (Rt. 41) Cedar Lake 219-390-7415 owners name is Greg I've stopped by a few times to BS and did an Illinois transfer there once. Super nice and helpful guy. Last time I was there about two months ago he told me they were trying to put together some training classes, have not heard anything else though...

I also have heard negative things about Debs, and welcome to the region.

Stay away from Deb's. I shot there once. The lighting is terrible and worse, the ventilation system consists of one of those air scrubbers you'd see in a bar ceiling for cigarette smoke. It's 10 feet behind the shooting line and useless. My boogers were black for days from shooting there. =) I usually go down to Willow Slough to shoot. I've never been to Blythe's in Valpo to shoot. If you're looking for an indoor range, I'd try there.

South County Guns has great people. Selection is limited. Blythes in Valpo is probably the best gun shop for selection and pricing. Their range is the best indoor in the region too. Don't confuse with Blythes in Griffith.....they suck.
For an outdoor range, I like Kingsbury. Welcome to the region and Ingo

Don't let that get out. My local only charges $20.00.............. Keep that a secret, don't want him getting any ideas.......:nailbite:

Blythes in Valpo is a pretty good indoor range. Twice as many lanes as Debs and way more controlled. They also have some decent sale specials from time to time if you get on their email list.
