    Freedom , yes really Freedom
i have a savage mark 2 btvs 22lr, it does have a heavy barrel, bipod, etc with a 3-9x40
i can hit 1/2" group at 100yds , and have taken squirrels out to nearly 200yds with it
yeh its a bit crazy of a 22 cal but i like it , can pop off rounds all day for about $30

i love it , thats why i also have a 10/22 and a charger both good to about 100-125yds

    Savage MKII

I love my Savage MKII. I purchased a brand new 10/22 carbine on the premise that it was the best gun for the money. I had nothing but problems with it after about 500 rds. The unit never shot to expectation, but had a trigger group failure at aboutba month old with lite use. I sold that hunk and purchased the MKII and have never looked back. The Savage is dependable up to 100 yards, but after that bullet drop can play a big role in making shots that count. For dependability I would use a bigger caliber for anything over 100. I only use open sights also

Last year, I shot a 198 - 7x on a SR-42 target at 200 yards with a scoped rifle and sling prone, just holding the rifle. No bipod or bench.
    The SR42 target has a 1.9 inch x-ring, and a 4.56 inch 10 ring.
I think that I hit the 3 inch scoring disk about 15 times.

I use a Savage Mark II .22 on a regular basis at 300 yards on steel. It takes a LOT of scope adjustment to get out that far, but it is great fun.

I routinely shoot my Savage MK II out to 300 yards up at Young's Longshot Range up by Wolcottville. I have a Leupold MK IV LRT 8.5 x 25 Front Focal Plane scope mounted on it. I run out of scope adjuxtment at 250 yards and have to start using hold over. I have a set of 20 MOA bases on order which should get me out to 300 or 350 yards.

Using Federal 40 grain solids at 1200 fps, here are some drops with the rifle sighted at 50 Yards:

    Yardage Drop
    50 - 0"
    75 - 2.0"
    100 - 6.0"
    125 - 12.2"
    150 - 20.9"
    175 - 32.0"
    200 - 45.8"
    225 - 62.5"
    250 - 82.1"
    275 - 104.9"
    300 - 131.0"

My only advice: Wait for a nice calm day
