Redefining "Welfare Queen"

Apparently QE2 (the person, not the ship) was having a hard time with heating bills for Buckingham Palace and actually had a request in for public assistance. The request was eventually denied, but such a request from one who already owes her living to the people is beyond the pale.

I wonder what the reaction to a similar request would be here in the states.
