Pops has a 552 and 572, took both to let the 4H shooting group use them recently.
The group was using bulk Remington ammo and two kids got lessons on why one wears safety glasses
Rounds were fired under instruction, no problems............and then POW!
The 552 goes down with smoke rolling from ejection port. Suspect shell case rupture. That rig is done, shooter fine.
More shooting and another POW!. 572 has cracked stock and split forend. Other shooter fine.
So now I gotta go over to pop's and check out the damage, see what it's going to take to get the rigs back up and running.
He did get the lot # of the ammo, dunno vintage. When I get it I'll post it to warn others. Heck, it may be from a lot already identified to be problematic.
Ammo was supplied by the program. Dunno if it a new batch or just part of a bunch that had proven no problem before.
It's quarantined for sure now.
