The 597's were recalled because of the pressures from the .17 hmr. Remington was recalling and buying back all rifles in .17hmr. This was awhile ago (2009?), so check the serial number

Remington recalled them, it was not engineered for the pressures that cartridge developed. If you get the gun, you can make a good profit selling it on Gunbroker, as they are very rare now (I have 3). Mine shoot fine.

If you want more info, head to Remington's website and read their side of it, then go to Horanady's site and read theirs, then read up on RimfireCentral, many good guys over there. Make your own decisions, and be safe.
