Given the choice of the two, which would you go with and why? I am considering a basic, bare bones model and it looks like these would fit the bill. They both have some really great sights on them. Both are fairly new.

If you have another suggestion, go ahead and throw it in. But, keep in mind that it is a bare bones model (no ultra class Kimber, Brown or Baer)

    Thanks for your opinions.

From seeing them side by side, it looks like you get more gun for less money with the Ruger. Of course that is figuring that you can actually FIND an SR1911 but the ones I've seen really look and have shot exceptionally well. I have a Springfield Loaded in stainless that is really rough around the edges both figuratively and literally and the Ruger, for hundreds less, seems much more refined.

If you REALLY want a bare-bones 1911, then go with a RIA, save almost 50% of the cost over the R1 or SR1911.

If you want to step up into the nicely appointed for what they cost, then the R1 / SR1911 fill the bill very nicely.

Thanks! That's what I'm talking about! Hard to believe 50% less though. I need to look into that one

You're going to be $800 or thereabouts for either the Rem or Ruger.

    $450 for the RIA...

    Ain't zactly 50%, but it's close.

Also, the vast majority of the RIA range reports that I read on here and on GlockTalk are very positive.

This would be my take. RIA for low cost, bare bones, good shooter from all the reviews here on INGO and elsewhere. For a bit of a step up, I'd pick up the Ruger if I found it for the right price.

If you go with the ruger SR1911 you will never look back. I work in firearms sales and have had a strong urge to buy one for my collection. In my opinion, the remington's spring is too loose for being a standard 1911

What do you mean about the R1's spring is too loose for being a standard model?
