So when mounting a scope, it seems I have to go way forward for enough eye relief for prone. Then, when standing, it's a good stretch forward. Any tips for making this compromise optimally, especially since the shooter's clothing can vary a lot?

Mount the scope with the zoom on 6x in prone, perfect eye relief. That will put you in the center of the eye box and give you more "forgiveness" in the eye relief.

Thanks, Alan. That's exactly the kind of specific advice I needed. I played with zoom while moving the scope and couldn't really figure out what seemed to work best.

I'm looking to scope a couple other rifles and sent you an email about that yesterday or the day before. Thanks again.

Here's the rifle (I've posted it on the Bullpup Show and Tell thread):

Another suggestion that might at least help mitigate differences in how far you are from the eyepiece (and also help accuracy, especially at moderately shorter range) would be to get a scope with an adjustable objective or with side focus.
