Got a piece of metal in my eye yesterday and finally got it removed but the damage was already done. When I woke up this morning it still felt like there was something in there so I went to the ER (family Dr. told me to go there) and found out it was a scratched cornea. First time I've experienced this and not too pleased with it. The real kick to the teeth here is I told myself to go get my safety glasses before I started to work under my truck but I did one thing after I said it and that resulted in the metal in the eye. I was really cussing myself after that. Lesson learned. Now I get to use eye drops every 6 hours for 7 days.

Those eyedrops will probably save your eye from scars. Had something similar happen years ago, felt like I had dirt in my eyes for 2 days, then the antibiotics started doing their job

Call you family doctor is a waste of time on today's world sending you to your eye doc would have saved you $ and time! Just my 2

At least your cornea is one of the fastest healing parts on your body. I've been there. It sucks...but it does go away quick compared to other injuries. Glad it was only a cornea.

I got shot in the eye with a homemade arrow (bow and arrow were made of a fairly green stick, milkweed for the arrow, and 50lb test for the string). Hurt for awhile and I got to wear an eye patch....but I got an extra cookie out of the whole ordeal. The babysitter thought an extra cookie was better than getting me to the dr.

ER's are not the greatest place for eye problems, if you don't get relief exactly on schedule get to an eye surgeon In Columbus area get to Dr. Pankratz. If you have any doubts get to a specialist.

ER's have good people in them but eyes are different.

I've had several problems and believe it or not one of the big danger this time of year is if the baseball field used real Lime for line marking. Ag lime is very hard on the protective bacteria

Cornea? no.. I did scratch the conjunctiva to the point it needed a few stitches though last year. Now that was fun. Use the drops and if not better in a couple of days have it looked at.

Safety glasses don't always stop things from getting in your eye and scratching it up. I managed to get something in around the lenses and had to wait a long week for it to heal.

I scratched my cornea when I was younger. Wore an eye-patch for a week and eyedrops for longer yet. I still have a scar on my cornea. Hurt like heck when I did it. The scar isn't noticeable unless I happen to get in the right light and look the right direction at the right colored object. Otherwise it's just everyday life as usual. Essentially, your brain just looks beyond the scar. Unless it is a severe scar I think you'll be just fine.

I scratched mine one time and didn't go to the doctor right away. I got an ulcer forming by the time I went. I had to put some think ointment in it periodically and wear a patch. It wasn't even a cool pirate patch.
