Alright, I was in the market for either a .243 or .270 for traget shooting and some coyote control/ maybe deer and prong horn. Long story short I picked up a Savage .300wsm from a friend instead. Now here is what I need help with. What kind of scope would you recommend? I have set a $300 limit for glass.

I'd look for something used with that budget. You can find Leupold M8s around there. I just bought a Sightron Big Sky for less than $300, and they are excellent.

I'd say either a nikon buckmaster, or burris fullfield with ballistic plex. I've had buckmasters in both 4.5-14 & 6-18x and they were great scopes. I've also been a fan of the burris fullfields with the ballistic plex reticles for a scope that gets sighted in and left alone.

I like my BSA for a cheap scope. Holds its zero but I have never been brave enough to check its return to zero. That being said, I have a Leupold Mark 4 for serious LR shooting.

Nikon is my go to company for scopes. I have Pro Hunters on my muzzleloaders and slug guns and Buckmasters on my rifles. Never had a problem with any of them and the 12 gauge slugs from a 6 pound Encore are brutal recoilers.

    Natchez

Natchez has some refurbed Nikons that are a deal. Optics planet is usually pretty good about prices and SWFA has what they call the samples list that often has some excellent glass with minor cosmetic blems for cheap.

I have a Browning A bolt in 300wsm. I put a Nikon Prostaff 4-12x 40 on it for under $200. I have Prostaffs on all my rifles and have never had any problems. They all hold zero well. For my money, scope buying is easy: buy a Nikon, install it then shoot the bull out of the target.

For that money I would recommend a nikon or a burris.. I think the Burris fulfield is a nice clear scope for the money
