I am wanting to know if it is legal in all situations to remove the plug from a shotgun to increase capacity?
    Legal for home defense?
Legal for any type of hunting?

    Hunting usually requires a plug.
Other than that, as many as you can comfortably carry.
The highest conventional shotgun capacity is 8+1 from the factory. There are add ons Like the X Rail for conventional shotguns, that will allow it to hold as many as 22+1.
Saiga drums go to 20 rounds IIRC. There is no limitation on magazine capacity right now.

Bird/waterfowl hunting is limited to 3 rounds. No other restrictions on shotgun capacity.

:yesway: The three round capacity applies to waterfowl and migratory game birds. So you better have the plug in to hunt ducks and dove. Otherwise blaze away.

Be best to check were you are going about that. I have seen some federal properties have 3 shot restriction on some other game other than birds.

Not bad advice. I actually leave the plug in my field gun all the time. Not really much reason for me to take it out. The exception being pheasent in the Dakotas. More shells the better!

For a home defense shotgun, load up as many shells as you can.
