This is my 1st 1911. I purchased it used recently and do not know its history. I notice the barrel has a ridge where the barrel bushing contacts it. The slide can hang up on it if it is slowly released. Is this intentional? Is this damage of some sort? What about the flat mainspring housing, was this changed or did some ship like this? Thank you.

That's normal on many barrels it's not damaged.
It shouldn't hang on it but not a huge deal if it only does it when you're slowly cycling it by hand.
If you wanted to improve that you would do it within the barrel bushing
But if it runs fine its nothing to worry about.

Since the gun is used its possible someone has fit a barrel bushing to it and may or may not be 100% fit

Mainspring housing was probably changed to do away with the lock, very commonly done.
Like AllenM stated, barrel is not a problem if the gun functions ok.

If you're wanting to change your mainspring housing, I recommend either Wilson Combat or Nighthawk Custom.
