Looking at trading an item for a springfield armory 1911. As I know there are various models of their 1911 I had a question about how to determine the kind it is.

A while back a guy told me that you had to check the prefix on the serial number and that would tell you whether it was match grade or not? Is this correct? The prefix on the one I am looking to acquire is NM. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I have an NM prefix government model (in fact I am carrying it right now). That puts it in the 80s and machined in the states. Mine is bone stock.

    Thanks guys,

Just called in and they said that it is a milspec model. Made in 03 in The US. What do you think this would be valued at with 3 mags and a holster?

I don't think we know enough about condition to be very accurate... but you can find a brand new milspec for $650, if memory serves. And that will come with more junk.
