A fellow showed up at the range with one while I happened to be there. We shot it at 300 yards on a SR-3 target. It was handy and accurate enough. We got 2 to 3 MOA with it with 168 Federal ammo at 300 yards. The rear sight is 1 MOA for each click, wind and elevation.
It is very loud because of the short barrel. I think I would opt for the Scout Squad for the 18 inch barrel.
That is just my preference though. I have never been fond of short barreled center fire rifles. But the rifle that we shot never malf'd and shot just fine.
Wear your ear protection my Socom 16"s are the loudest .308 rifles i have ever shot. Both of mine had dim tritium front posts but Springfield quickly took care of it.

Should be everything you need to know. I have a Sprinfield Standard in the wood stock, I've heard the scout with the 18" barrel is the way to go tho supposidly you do not loose any of the accuracy of the long barrel .
I had one for a couple of months. Went back to SA 3 times for FTE and did not resolve the issue. With the help of a great gunstore owner and a SA rep I was able to exchance the 16 for a full size "Loaded" M1A which has performed flawlessly from the first shot. Very frustrating but still it is only a sample of 1 and I have several SA products that perform very well.
Mine has been great fun. I dont have the socom II just the standard socom but its a heck of a shooter and really fun. But if you have neighbors that hate noise then you may want to consider a different model.
I personally think the wood is the way to go, but if you get the synthetic you can always pick up a GI wood or even the GI synthetic later. The factory synthetic looks cheap imo
