SR9c recoil spring (guide rod) installation question

I have problems sometimes when I reassemble my SR9c. When it comes time to put in the recoil spring I cannot get it to collapse to fit back into the slide. It catches when I squeeze it and will not budge. I have to do it over and over again until it will fit.

Anyone have this problem?

Yes, its not as easy as it is in my S&W M&P.

Sometimes I come in on it from the side.
