I looked into it awhile back. The shiny brass inside and out looked very tempting, but I kept reading reports that the brass was getting work hardened and brittle from the peening action of the SS media. Decided to save myself a few hundred bucks and stick with corn cob media.

For tumbling, I use a three step process. And yes, I use a cement mixer with the exterior holes sealed with silicone caulk. It's quite an investment, it's about $400 for the mixer alone, but it works really, really well.

Step 1: Up to 15k cases w/ 10 gallons HOT water and one squirt Lemon Ajax dish soap. Tumble for 20 mins. Dump out water.

Step 2 - Cases from step 1, 10 gallons HOT water and 1/2 capful Lemishine polish (the dry stuff, not the liquid). Tumble for 30 mins. Dump water.

    Let dry overnight.

Step 3 - Mix 75lbs corncob media (infused with 1/2 cup liquid car wax) and tumble dry brass for about 2 hours. Brass comes out even better than the photos from the OP.

This process works in a rotary tumbler only, not a vibratory tumbler.

I used stainless media for a little while, but it gets everywhere. I mean... everywhere. Its in the driveway, tracked through the house, on the carpets in the house, between the tiles in the bathroom, plugging up the drains, everywhere... and I stopped using it six months ago. Vacuums don't pick it up either. Its a huge PIA to contain when you're rinsing the brass, so although it works well, I'd recommend against it. The brass comes out just as shiny with soap and Lemishine. Also, it is hard on brass - so much so that it will dissolve steel cases with extended tumbling.

Although I don't have a cement mixer :) I use it in a Thumblers tumbler with stainless media. It is the best way to clean brass that I have tried and I have tried alot
