Buying my first semiauto pistol and have read about "stovepipeing". Know what it is --but---how does one usually get the stuck casing out of the jam?

Pull the slide back, lift out the brass.

This works on the range, but is for the range only.

stove pipe is an easy malfunction to clear, sometimes just run your hand over the slide and fling the spent shell out of your way,
    This sometimes works

weapon on safe, release mag, rack slide back.

This is another "range only" fix.

The best way is to simultaneously rack the slide and "flip" the gun (lean it) to the right (where the ejection port is located on most firearms).

This can be done both on the range and during a fight reliably and super easily/ quickly.

Since this fix is almost exactly like the fix for a dud round or an empty chamber (tap the bottom of the magazine with your hand, then rack-flip) most guys just
tap, rack-flip as their standard response to a stove pipe.
