Sub sonic vs regular carry ammo

I'm curious about the effectiveness of subsonic vs standard carry rounds.

Basic question is... Are sub sonic rounds good for personal carry protection, and Is there a large volume difference.

No, I would not carry a suppressor around, thats why I was wondering if sub sonic rounds were more hearing friendly

without a suppresser all you hear is the gas expanding..
with one, the sonic boom of the round might be heard..

I too have wondered this? Although it is because if I had to fire in close quarters, hallway, car, etc. It should not be as loud right? I will want to be able to hear myself telling the dead guy not to move! JK

147gr 9mm is subsonic. Very effictive.

Yes. A lot of SD ammo is subsonic. 9mm 147gr for one. As well as many of the heavier .45 caliber rds

no, sub sonic means slower than the speed of sound, not less sound..

if you ever work the target pits of a really long range, you can uncover your ears and hear the sonic boom of the bullet long before the boom of the gunpowder..
