So I've been thinking back and forth on a 17HMR rifle for mainly the sole purpose of a crow gun. I hate crows, they're annoying bast***s. I've taken shots at crows before with 22s but haven't had much luck (speed shots since I'm not firing from cover or using a call) and I've yet to shut one of them up with a 22. I have however taken care of crow nicely with 17 HMR in the past.
Been thinking about a CZ 455 American (would have to have it threaded) or maybe a Ruger American with a threaded barrel.
Anyway, my question is, with 17HMR, how does barrel length affect the noise from a suppressed 17? I've shot a Savage MKII FV-SR in 17 suppressed before and for the hotness of the round, it sounded fairly well. I was just curious that if I went with a 16", 20", or a 24" barrel, if the noise increase would be that noticeable? It's a rimfire so all the powder should be burnt, pressures at uncorking shouldn't be much different, and with 17HMR no matter what the round is going to be supresonic.
Didn't know if maybe a longer barrel would sounds better because the sonic crack would be further away from the shooter or.....?
I could be over thinking this; but never hurts to ask people their experience.
