Taurus PT111 G2 Rust Issues

I am looking for some help/tips on removing/preventing rust on my PT111. Long story short, I attended Southport Lt. Allen's funeral and left my weapon in the lunch pail I had brought with me. The inner part had coolers in it, but there is a divider and that's where I had the weapon (obviously wasn't enough of a barrier). I had a TON of rust on it due to it sitting in there all day plus the motorcade. I got most of it off with a brush and gun cleaner, but there is still some rust in the barrel and still occasionally forms on the rear part of the slide. What can I do to get the rust off/out of it more effectively? Thanks

In my opinon, the most effective way would be to have the slide refinished with Cerakote. It would be more durabe and rust resistant then the factory finish
