Decent guns, you can use the mags in 9mm MAC-10s. They didn't catch on well during the golden years as no SA version that could be converted was available. MP40s were also easier to build a receiver for, and these were made by a few people.

As neat a gun as the MPL is, when you put it up against the MP5, I think the right gun won that race.

At least with the MP5 you had something that could be converted more easily from SA to FA back in the early 80s.
