Trying to decide if a Vanguard is "good enough".
Thinking maybe the Meat Eater version (change floorplate to non logo later)
or get a Mark V Weatherguard.

    .257 WM of course.

Anybody got either to report on?

That is a GREAT caliber choice!!!

I have Vanguards, Howas and Mark V's.

The Vanguard is a Howa which is, in my experience, as good as anything remotely close to its price range. My Howa's and Vanguards have been accurate, reliable and well made. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

The Mark V is just at another level of quality, craftsmanship and durability - and the price reflects it but I can't say they are anymore accurate than the Vanguard/Howas. If the price difference is inconsequential to you, get the Mark V otherwise a Vanguard should serve you quite well.

It is kinda a Chevy versus BMW argument...both will get you where you need to be.

Have you looked at the "new" Weatherby 307 line? Rem 700 based platform...hmmm...they sell just the action too....hmmm..

    Meateater is around 900.
    MkV Weatherguard 1600.
Just wondering if 700 bucks is worth it (accuracy/feel).

Guy I know had a couple MkV deluxe models, one w a few dings, but not bad.
    I shoulda got that one.

Gonna hunt it so it'll get more LOL.

Too far from a Sportsmans to go look/order today.

The rifle will be for yotes.
    In crappy weather.
    Cerakote or stainless preferred.
    Little better stock too.

Could go blued cheapy then B&C stock for another 350.
Puts me at a K, for a Vanguard. Still blued finish.

    Get a Mark V Weathermark for 1600.
And those seem to be in stock.
The Meateater isn't, according to Sportsmans.
But can order from Weatherby........with a 120 day window.

I have the vanguard II in 243. Perfect and inexpensive yote gun and caliber, and can afford to put decent glass on it. It has not disappointed.

ETA: I went with the 243 because I don’t enjoy the bigger boomers as much as I once did, And my shots are usually within 200 to 300 yards or less.

My .243 is a Rem 700 in HS stock w Leupold 4-12X AO.
    Its alright LOL

I just want a Weatherby rifle/cartridge. Am looking more at the Mark V Weathermark, at least they are in stock/available elsewhere.

The Meateater Vanguard is sold out. But can order from Weatherby direct, with a 120 day shipping window. The other Sportsmans edition is not chambered in .257 WM.
    The Hush rifle is though.

The spiral flute in grey I thought good looking. The Meateater camo stock is neither here nor there for me.

The lesser models, have Griptonite stocks, whatever diff those are from the one on the Meateater. Why I wanted to handle one. May travel to a Sportsmans next weekend to check.

I've always wanted a .257 WM but never cared for Weatherby rifles or found a Vanguard/Howa that I liked enough. I've often thought about buying a used Tikka M695 and having it rebarreled but it's never been a high enough priority yet.

If you are going to have one weatherby magnum caliber....seems like it should be a Mark V.

Doesn't sound like the price difference is a deal breaker so: buy once - cry once.

    257WBY - yep I am a little jealous.
