BBC News - Why Irish soldiers who fought Hitler hide their medals

    I never knew this.

It's sad to think this is what happened to those of us who went to Vietnam. I remember comming home to an America that was changed by those who did not understand.

" Do not put on a job applaction that you were in that war or they will not give you a job."

It took until the first gulf war to feel good about what we did their!

"They didn't understand why we did what we did."

That's exactly what I was thinking as I read the article.

Interesting that the article says that 60% of the Irish wanted Germany to defeat Britain.

I understand why the Irish hated the British.
But didn't those morons see that if Britain was defeated and enslaved that they were likely next?

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

The Nazis were fighting the English, they then become Ireland's friend (at least that was the thinking).

    Kirk beat me to it.
England had for a very l-o-n-g time done bad things to Ireland.
You are looking at this from a US-ally lens and not an Irish lens.
Those men (the ones blacklisted) signed up to join the English army (which was the enemy of Ireland! They are traitors to the Irish people for signing up with the enemy.

    It's all about perspectives really.

As i said, "I understand why the Irish hated (hate) the British".

But sometimes fighting alongside my enemy to defeat a much GREATER enemy is the SMARTER move.

Especially when WW2 ended, it should've been realized how close the Irish dodged the Nazi bullet themselves and given these guys some slack.

So I stand by my belief that the Irish were self defeating morons to punish these men for fighting to protect Ireland in the long run.
Which was LIKELY their motive for joining the Brits in the fight.
