Here in Illinois where there is no legal carry whatsoever, the state is looking to raise revenue by building several casinos. The one I am concerned about is being proposed for Danville. If you are not familar with Danville, it is located on I-74, 90 miles west of Indy, just into Illinois. The locals in favor of it are saying it will draw a lot of money from Indiana. Since I have no interest in gambling whatsoever I am more concerned with more crime because of the casino. What is the status of carrying in casinos in Indiana? I really feel there won't be the business coming from Indiana they are counting on because of our lack of a carry law.
I am thinking about writing a "letter to the editor" about this and would like to have input from the people who they are trying to attract. Thanks in advance for your help, Jim.

im not a gambler, so take this with a grain of wendys new sea salt :), but i have been to vegas and to the race tracks a couple of times.

a good portion of the poeple that tend to be in there might THINK they are in there for entertainment or might say they are knowing themselves even that they are not.
they usually have some kind of addiction. or habit. addiction might be a strong word. but they really think they are going to "hit it big" those type of people will go whether it is in illinois or indiana. basically whichever is a shorter drive. not giving a consideration to their morals of illinios politics.

now like mike h said. there is already no carry in indiana casinos. so the people that are going to the casinos wont care if there is no carry in the peoples republik of illinios.

im sad to say that if they build a casino in danville, it will bring in plenty of business and a good portion of it will be from indiana.

however. in my more and more libertarian views, im not one to say they shouldnt build one. if someone wants to gamble, so be it. if they want to gamble so much they get addicted, so be that as well. but i think carry should be allowed anywhere and everywhere which starts entering a different topic

Can't carry in riverboat casinos in IN. I'm sure the others have "rules". I also believe the casinos are required to provide secure storage for your handgun at the door. French Lick will put it in a lockbox at the front desk for you.

Illinois is a drive-through state for me. I try not to stop there for any reason. No way I'm visiting a casino in Illinois.

They will get business from alot of the border towns like Covington and Cayuga I'm sure but it is easier for us in the Indianapolis area to go to the one in Anderson or Indiana Live. Danville needs to get something besides a casino to attract tourists. I lived in Danville and it seems like nothing lasts there. Half of the mall was nothing but empty stores.

    No carry in casinos here.

...now like mike h said. there is already no carry in indiana casinos...

    Not quite...

Can't carry in riverboat casinos in IN.

    Correct.

Currently, Indiana Code only prohibits carrying of firearms in the riverboat casinos.

There are other non-riverboat casinos in Indiana. These are not specifically enumerated as off-limits in IN.

Bet your sweet bippy, though, that it's against the other casino's rules.

Just to be more clear, if I do write a LTE it will not be anti-gambling, it will be pro-carry. I agree with rich8483, I care less if people gamble that part doesn't bother me. I am just looking to promote RTC with a subject that is allready in people's minds.
If Indiana law does require secure storage of a firearm or if the casinos do it voluntarily that would still be way ahead of anything in Illinois. Jim.

If I have to pass through Illinois enroute to someplace (which I rarely do) I will not stop anyplace and spend one red cent! I won't even stop and take a leak at their reststops. I just drive through it and no stops what so ever.

I lived just west of Danville for 12 years. I now live in Indiana. I will never go back through the People's Democratic Republic of Illinois. Ever. It is a Socialist State. You have NO rights.

I just drove through IL today and like many others I don't stop and spend any money in IL ever. I always make sure my I have enough fuel to get through.

The only thing IL ever gets from me is a flush.:)

Casinos are for people who don't understand mathematics.

Illinois is for people who don't understand the 2nd Amendment.
