My Gerber ez-out is great UTILITY knife but as a last ditch defense weapon it's deathly slow. I've been thinking about a Kershaw or CRKT with "assisted opening" but then I thought "why not a fixed blade?".
What are the pros&cons of a fixed blade vs a folder?
As Ethan Becker once said, "...a folding knife is just a fixed blade that's already broken". Get an ESEE, (you pick the size), and you'll never look back. Check out the ESEE WARRANTY. And you can buy it at a hefty savings from our own little IMGO KNIFE LADY.
My favorite EDC fixed blade is my Spyderco Street Beat. It's small and light enough to conceal but big enough to do any EDC chore short of chopping wood. The only real problem I have EDCing a fixed blade is belt real estate. Between an extra mag or two and my EDC flashlight I just don't have room.
I have taken to carrying a second folder equipped with the Emerson wave feature in my left pocket for last ditch SD and my working folder in my right pocket.
