Today, my range time includes a brand new shooter.
A ten year old girl. The nephew's (09shooter) daughter.
I asked MiniJet if she minded me borrowing her Savage MkII for the day, because she's going elsewhere with the band...
I'm taking the workmate bench and a stool, sandbags, and clays to shoot at. It's more fun to hit them than paper.
Depending on if she likes it and wants to shoot more...I may have to go back later for my *own* trigger time.
We might have a budding shooterchick junkie on our hands. :D

    *sigh*
I forgot to grab the sandbags.

    It was windier than crap!

But we had a good time...

Only major snafu was that I didn't have kid sized safety glasses...
And for that, I need to probably get online and order some to have on hand.
I know which ones I need because the safety gear place I used to work at sold them.
Problem is, they aren't located there any more...

So we shot the bolt action Savage borrowed from MiniJet without them. I wasn't crazy about that...and had it been a semi auto flinging brass, I'd have probably said "sorry, no dice".

    This is my grandniece Becca.
We're going over the safety rules again before she gets one round at a time to shoot.
Here we're figuring out that she's left eye dominant and trying to figure out the logistics of where the rifle is going to comfortably sit for her to shoot left-handed.

While she was asking questions about the scope, apparently it was more comfortable under her armpit. lol

    This is Reece.
He's Becca's little brother...and sisters can't have ALL the fun.
He's a natural...He never missed one shot. Not even the first one.
He listened real well for the better part of an hour and a half before he got bored with it all.
We shot at clays on the berm, and the reset target.

They took turns one round at a time and 09Shooter said they were having a blast!

After the kids were bored and done, they went to 09Shooter's van and then I got out the handguns.
Mr.Jet showed up and we all shot the 1911s and a couple 22 handguns.
I told the brats I wanted hugs before we left; even the big one...and I don't think they minded me calling them brats because I got the hugs...WITH smiles. :)

The only part that I'm not allowed to tell you is something about how well the kids shot in comparison to some sort of parental unit of theirs, so you won't hear that from me.

P.S. It really was windy! (hope that makes you feel better 09shooter! :D)
