I have an original Gerber LMF that I bought around 20 years ago that sat in my safe forgotten until one day last year. I had never used it and it was in the cordura sheath that it came with. I pulled it out and was shocked to see it covered in rust and deeply pitted. Being stainless steel I didn't think it would rust to that degree and I couldn't figure out how it had rusted while in a safe full of guns that were all in good condition. I know that stainless will rust and have seen several nice S&W model 66s that had a considerable amount of rust on them. I looked at the sheath and figured that the steel rivets had rusted and that accelerated the rusting of the knife blade. Anyway I contacted Gerber and even though they don't offer this model anymore they said to send it in and that they would see what could be done. Well I got the knife back today and it looks amazing! There are still a few small pitted areas on the blade but they really did a great job getting rid of most of the pitting and rust and put a new edge on the blade. The knife was also returned in a brand new sheath as well as the original sheath and box. I'm not a big knife guy and don't know that much about them honestly but I do own about 7-8 older Gerbers and have always liked them. Gerber will continue to get my business.
