I try to keep 1,000 rds. minimum on hand for each caliber I shoot. Once I go below that I order another case before too long.

The only extreme is being out of ammo!

I would love to have more ammo on hand for everything, but my budget doesnt always allow for it.

I have 1k in 5.56 right now but only a couple hundred for each handgun.

    I need to stock up.

My rule for my HD guns is 2 magazines worth of ammo at the ready (in mags or side saddle) and at least one full box for each readily accessible. The others have at least a fully loaded magazine. That is bare minimum.

That equals two 15 rd mags +1 in chamber for the 9mm night stand gun and 4 in the tube plus five in the saddle for the shotgun, empty chamber, with a box of 50 9mm and box of 5 more 12 ga. on deck. Plus an SKS with 10 in and 4 full s-clips for "what if/shtf". Again, that's bare minimum.

I was going to inventory my ammo tonight anyway, I'll get a total count then.

    EDIT: 5 calibers 150-200:1 average 918 total.

    About 300:1

I've only 1 rifle in 7.62x39, 1rifle in 5.56 nato, but have 4 9mm pistols and 1 carbine. So I keep around 1000 of s&b they can all eat well + some HP's in various counts that I know cycle well.

But I also have ammo on hand that doesn't have a mouth to feed. ...Yet. Like about 500 rounds of 45acp and 200 rounds of 44mag.

    Someday I'll need those.

Builing on my ammo supply currently but currently 900 rounds each for my G19 and G26. I know both 9mm but I keep my ammo separate for each cause they are located in different parts of the house.

It really takes discipline to save ammo but im learning. The best thing to do is buy a box or two every week or every paycheck put it in an ammo can in a out of sight area and try to forget about it. Before long you will build it up

This gets me wondering how much I actually have.....I think I'm at about 450-500 9mm. Not nearly as much as I want, but money issues kind of hinder my 1k 9mm rounds right now. Also hinders my having more guns right now too lol.

I have been trying to stock up on ammunition, i wanted to get at least 1000 per, but i never kept track of what i was buying. After a few sales, and a couple auctions, i decided to count it up. I have plenty for now, my 9mm is around 6500, as is my .223/5.56, oh and about 17,000 .22lr. enough of everything else for a while.

Im at about 3,000 9mm and about 3,000 .223 and about 200 30-06. Im still building up too. Honestly i would like to be at 5,000 9mm, 10,000 .223 and 500 30-06. I forgot about my shot gun but i just have a hundred rounds or so sitting around for that and probly 2,000 rounds for my .22

    500+ .22

My wife thinks that's enough (by enough I mean "excessive"), but she is wrong (shhhh). Still adding to the collection though. Just have to practice buying more than I shoot.
