Question. Why is this TSA stuff such a HUGE DEAL all the sudden? I mean we have been putting up with this for years and years, suddenly there is protest and outrage.

My question is, why werent people upset for the past half decade?

What changed all the sudden that it is headline news and we are all up in arms over it?

Or is it a media driven outrage....

Media driven. Americans have to be PO'ed or scared of something 24/7, midterm elections are over, no immediant threat on the horizon, hey, let's write something about TSA b/c of an internet sensation video! Instant news making.

Sorry Mrjarrel, that sounds like "I was hating the TSA BEFORE it was cool" :D Poser :D :D

I guess you missed the part about full body scanners and full body searches if you decline. These are recent developments. Before that they simply took all your hygine products and were incompetent. Now they're digitally strip searching us.

Because they recently started using radioactive scanners (Full body scanner - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) that give more information than you would see on some 1X porn movie and instead of the "wand" inspection as an alternative to the big metal detector you now go through a vigorous hands on physical search even if there is no evidence to support you needing to be searched just because you don't want to be irradiated by their backscatter Xray machine.

I don't believe this is particularly media driven. It is sheer public outrage. Taking off your shoes slows things down, is inconvenient, and is a highly questionable practice for security, but is essentially harmless.

However, these latest procedures have crossed a very personal line for many people. Access to our bodies is the most personal of intrusions. Few are exhibitionists and want strangers viewing their naked bodies (even in a somewhat obscured format) and certainly to don't want to be felt up unless it is by their choice or there is probable cause.

They were an aggravation before, but that was with a simple metal detector.

Now, they will either take nude pictures of you and your minor children (which will be stored, and possibly shared for entertainment value), or they will perform a full-contact manual search of you and your minor children (including your "privates", to the point of going beneath the clothing). Failure to submit to either (or both) once in line will get you arrested and fined.

The ONLY other time any government agency is allowed anything CLOSE to this contact is when you are being detained and suspected of committing a crime.

ANY other person who performs these acts would be charged with multiple felonies.

Essentially, the 4th Amendment means absolutely nothing to the TSA, and the .gov that supports them. You no longer have the RIGHT to be secure in your person.

That is why it is a huge deal all of the sudden.

people are now viewing it as a violation. think of it. how would you like it if i had naked pics of your wife, girlfriend, sister, you? That 10yr old kid? NUNS?!?! and worse off, if you dont let me take the pics, i get to feel her/you up? atleast thats how im looking at it.But as someone else posted ive been pissed at them since they were formed. I new they would be trying something like this.If your pissed about this you need to tell them. Call them up at let them know this behavior isnt appropriate. If enough do it they will concede.

I think it's just people waking up and figuring out that we are not the criminals and do not need to treated as such just so a few individuals don't get offended. The whole thing has gone much too far. There are better ways to do it. Although it still assumes you’re a criminal first before proving your innocence...how about instant background checks before traveling by plane?

At this point......They are assuming you are criminal and you have to prove you are not by submitting to humiliating searches.

Really? Where is it written that people have the right to fly? Don't like body scanners, drive or take a ship.

Wow. That is backwards. How about if they start instituting these rules before you can drive or take a ship? Would you object then and why? Do you have a right to drive or take a ship? It isn't about a right to fly at all. It is about the 4th amendment and unreasonable searches without a warrant.

Google search terms generate news articles. The top ten listed searches on google trends get news write ups all over the world. Well Alex Jones figured that out and uses his mass audience to shoot stories right up to the top of the search engines. On November 12 he made the search term. Revolt Against the TSA number 1 and has been verbally bombing them ever since. So there is your reason why all of the sudden.

It isn't about "right to fly". It is about a government entity overstepping its bounds.

The airlines could have hired a private firm, and the discussion would be different. They didn't. The Federal Government took over security by mandate. The .gov is bound to certain standards, and they have over-reached.

I do like the second half of your statement: I am avoiding airlines at the moment. Let them get their $$$ from someone else.

add this to my list of reasons why I want to hit my roommate with a clue-by-four... i showed him one of these articles and he was like "I don't see the problem."

I'm wondering what kind of reception I'm going to have when I fly home in December. thank God my connecting flight is in Europe, not the US.

This is actually a recruiting tool. TSA job applications have increased dramatically since these new procedures were announced. It's a tough job, but our country needs us.

On a more serious note, this is a victory for terrorism. We are now eroding our own rights and terrorizing ourselves. All al Quada needs to do now is bomb the airport security checkpoint during a busy time. In response TSA will impliment parking lot inspectors to screen people before they enter the terminal.
