Well here is the story as it happened today. I took the day off to be with the kids today. I have a 14 yr old and a 18 yr old both are girls. My 14 yr old is into guns and hunting while my older daughter really has not had much interest in guns. She has shot and hunted but not much the past few years.

OK with that behind us we were running around in Lafayette today went to the mall and a few other places. On the way home we stopped by Applied Ballistics since finding that place I try to stop in just to see whats new. While we where there my oldest daughter found a book and wanted to know how much it was. To be honest I was not paying attention so my youngest daughter ask the counter salesman how much the book was and he gave her the price. My oldest daughter then ask if I would get her the book so we go look at it the title is The Cornered Cat a woman's guide to concealed carry by Kathy Jackson. Wow that hit me then she asked about what it took to get a LTCH permit and wanted to look at guns. I took some time and we looked at different gun there and made 2 more stops at other shops just to kick tires if you know what I mean.

I am still not sure what happened today but she seems very interested and excited about getting a LTCH permit and gun shopping. It was a complete turn around by just seeing a book which I purchased for her. Have any of you had an experience like this?

It sounds to me that she is comming of "age". You might ask her if anything has happened that helped her come to this desire. It sounds like you have had an influance that you didn't think you had. Keep up the good work!

You cannot pressure her to make this sort of thing happen but you sure can encourage her to keep it up. Sounds cool to me.

I have seen the website before, but I did not know there was a book. I am going to check right now to see if I can buy this for my wife's Kindle. I think she would enjoy reading a book written by a woman for women.

:yesway: Glad to hear more ladies are gettin into firearms. When my wife and I were dating and gettin to know each other we stumbled upon the topic of guns. She said she was not against them but she never really got to shot them growing up. I proposed the idea of going to the shooting range and she said sure. That was around 7 years ago.

We have a tradition of not buying large gifts for each other for Christmas but instead make a large purchase for something we want. So this year she suggested purcahsing a couple a guns we liked a Henry 44 mag Big Boy rifle for her and a S&W 357 revolver for me. God I love that woman:D

Just to say they don't seem into firearms much doesn't mean they dislike them, but it is good to hear that she is coming back around to them.

Yea it just struck me funny today. She seemed to like to shoot but then just lost interest. While at the store a lady came out of the range and she was quick to let me know when we got to the truck that there were women in there shooting as well as men. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow. She is going off to college next year and I told her she could not carry at her high school or college but she still wants to pursue the LTCH so I will support that. My kids have been around guns all their lives it came as a shock to them that not all people have guns they thought for a long time it was normal for everyone to shoot and carry guns.

Good job dad!!! Informed them, they made their own decision. Sounds like she is going about it in the corrrect way, making an informed decision. Thanks for the book title. My youngest daughter just got from her husband a "Pink Lady" 38. She plans on getting her LTC this coming month (put in the paper work at her new county of residence). Anyway, just glancing at the book, chapter titles and some content in a couple of chapters, it looks pretty informative and will create communication/questions. Appreciate the book, tell your daughter thanks from me, she just helped me with my daughter!!!!

:rockwoot: Good for her! From experience, I've seen a turn around in firearms interest without any obvious reason. But, she has listened to you, and has heard or experienced something that made her rethink her position on guns. Don't push her too quickly. Let her decide how fast she want to pursue this interest. Now the important part, good training. esrice gave you the link to Corned Cat. Have her look it through, it has great info. Best wishes to you both!! :D

Not a weird day at all! A day of validation of the teachings of her parents I would say. She understands the world we live in. Understands guns aren't evil or the cause of criminal behavior. Good job! Now get back in there and make sure she is properly prepared to carry and use whatever firearm she picks! Your daughter still needs you on this one Dad if you didn't get the hint!LOL

You guys are lucky. (but making me believe) ... not sure why my daughter (25) is so anti ... no one else in the family is. ... I keep working to figure out her attitude / where it comes from. ... I didn't really shoot much back when she was younger (its really a 'step' thing I 'step'-ed in when she was 14) ... I figure my grandson (and 2nd grand ??? on the way) will be my 'secret weapons' to coax her to not be so anti when they beg her to go w/ all the rest of us. ... Good Job to both of you! ...

bb3, Have you just had a honest open talk with her? Let her explain her feelings and why she feels the way she does. If her logic is flawed or of base then explain to her why those points are incorrect or of base. Show her some of the daughter threads on here and see if she is open to change. At this stage of her life it may be difficult to see the other side. Do not give up though but don't push to hard.

This can explain any resistance to everything that is about you. I have done this successfully as a parent and now the son I raised is raising 3 step children of his own, I have considerable experience. Being the step parent means opposition in one way or the other just because it is you and what you do.
